From my first year in practice here in Oregon, I came to know OCDLA as a tremendous resource. As a public defender and now as a contract and retained attorney, I value OCDLA’s continuing legal education seminars and publications. As I grew in my practice and took on more and more complex cases, the importance of OCDLA became even more clear to me. None of us can be experts in all subtopics, and OCDLA and its members, through the resource libraries and the pond, gets us all up to speed.

Being part of the Board over the past two years has broadened my knowledge of the depth and complexity of this organization and given me new ideas on how to help us continue to change and develop as the society and legal system continues to change around us. I am interested in being a member of the OCDLA Board because I believe I can assist OCDLA in that capacity. I have been a member of the Board of Directors of the Marion County Association of Defenders (MCAD) for over 10 years. I was the President of the Board for two years and have been the MCAD Treasurer for the past three plus years. As an MCAD Board member I learned about the funding issues we and OPDS face.

As I was growing up, my mother taught me that it is each person’s responsibility to make his or her community a better place by volunteering service to the community. After talking to various current board members, I realized that this organization that I love, OCDLA, is at a crossroads. I feel a responsibility to step up once again and offer my experience and energy to help however I can to guide this organization to a bright future.
